Any day when we can raise our cups in celebration to coffee is a good day, and today is no exception! We’re celebrating National Coffee Day at IMAGE headquarters and taking note of all of our favourite independent coffee spots around Dublin, and why we love them so. Our coffee culture has come a long way in just a short few years and we’ve welcomed a wave of entrepreneurs daring enough to open their own shops with open arms. One thing we’ve learned; it?pays to know your flat white from your mocha-choka-frappa-lokka-chino.
Hatch, situated in the picturesque seaside village of Glasthule, is a passion project created and run by three very different sisters who all share the same coherent dream:?providing great coffee in beautiful and tranquil surroundings. Mealla, Hannah, and Norabeth combined their world-class knowledge of coffee (all sisters learned their barista skills internationally) to create this unique space. Serving piping hot 3fe coffee,?loose-leaf teas are sourced from Wall & Keogh and bespoke hot chocolate from?Valrhona Celaya, Hatch has established itself as a local caffeine haven.
Established in 2013 by entrepreneurs and coffee enthusiasts?Conor Higgins and Amie Costello, Oxmantown has been flourishing ever since and has acquired a clientele who are devoted to their delicious locally-brewed coffee (nearby at Cloud Picker: Dublin’s only micro?roastery), and their traditional, hearty food that’s fit for a Vikings’ belly. Sticking with their local motif, Oxmantowns bread is also baked by local bakery Arun Bakery, and all sandwiches are made each day by Conor and his staff. Step inside this miniature abode and be instantly transformed to a suave and elegant Parisian caf?. Snuggled away neatly on the side of Wicklow Street in the city centre, Le Petit Parisien is a great retreat for tired shoppers or a pitstop for romantics. In typical french style, the cafe boasts a reputation for serving good?(albeit’strong) coffee, and their pastry selection is above and beyond (the?croissants are deliciously?crispy). Chances are you would walk by Brother Sister if you didn’t know it was there. Burrowed in the doors of Pygmalion adjacent to the?South William Street entrance to the Powerscourt Town Centre, Brother Sister is a nifty little?coffee bar accredited to providing top notch coffee on-the-go. You won’t find any seating area or any of the other fancy extras that come with modern coffee shops, but what you will get is high-quality coffee served by pleasant?baristas. The small sanctuary is also an ideal spot for trying a big variety of coffee beans from other Irish roasters including?Coffee Mojo, Two Fifty Squared, and The Happy Pear. Although it’s a relative newbie to the Dublin coffee scene, Proper Order Coffee?are already a dominant favourite among speciality coffee lovers here. Stocking beautifully aromatic beans from Ethiopia, Kenya, El Salvador, and Honduras – as well as locally produced favourites like Cloud Picker – you’ll be spoiled for choice in this small, yet humble, space. ?IMAGE in-house coffee connoisseur?Eoin?can confirm that these guys?actually and verifiably serve the best cup of coffee in town. Olive, run by Deirdre Dorrity and her husband Peter, expanded just last year and is probably every local Skerries person favourite hideout.?Always welcoming,?Olive takes pride in serving excellent coffee and?beautiful food. The owners also run a successful shop and deli that resides next to the cafe.
