Caroline Flack, who has presented Love Island for the last five years, has made a statement on her Instagram stories

Presenter and TV personality Caroline Flack has officially stepped down from presenting Love Island, according to a statement posted on her Instagram stories this morning.

The announcement comes after Flack, 40, was charged with assault last Friday, following a domestic incident involving her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

Flack wrote: “There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regards to my personal life. While matters were not as have been reported, I am committed to co-operating with the appropriate authorities and I can’t comment further on these matters until the legal process is over.

“However, Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series, I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series 6. I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.”

“She doesn’t deserve any of this”

After her arrest, Flack’s current boyfriend Lewis Burton spoke out to defend the TV star, saying “I’m tired of the lies and abuse aimed at my girlfriend… Caroline is the most lovely girl. Loyal and kind. She doesn’t deserve any of this.”

Days after the alleged assault, Flack’s ex-boyfriend Andrew Brady posted what appears to be a Non-Disclosure Agreement to his Instagram profile. The document is dated March 14, 2018 and Brady captioned the photo “#abusehasnogender”. There was never any suggestion of physical violence in their relationship, which came to an end in December last year.

It remains unclear who will take over the role of presenter in Flack’s absence on the upcoming series of Love Island.
