An equinox marks the beginning of a new season. There are two equinoxes a year — one in spring and one in autumn.
The term comes from the Latin word aequus, meaning equal, and nox, the word for night, ie ‘equal night,’ because day and night will be at equal length during an equinox, as the Earth’s axis is perpendicular to the sun’s rays. After this, our days start to get warmer and longer.
Just like spring, it’s believed that astrologically, the spring equinox is a time of the world coming back to life and the end of hibernation. It’s a time for starting fresh, for big changes, new beginnings, potential and rebirth. If you can’t bear a January resolution, think of this as a better time to set your intentions and goals for the year ahead, with a little bit of cosmic help. Reflect, prioritize and do a spring clean of your home, and your life.
According to possibly the world’s most famous astrologer Susan Miller, “With spring March 20, daylight and evening will be precisely the same length. In astrology when day light grows longer with each day (spring) it is the time to be individual and a leader. Shorter days (fall) put more emphases on collaboration.”
