3 Of The Best High Street Brands For AW16

Need a steer on the best high-street brands for AW16? Here are three that will definitely make my new-season wish list.

COS

For me, the texture and cut of the pieces at Cos are what make them so covetable, but especially this year, given that AW16 is so heavily defined by texture and silhouette. Asymmetric detailing, cocoon shapes, directional cuts and an innovative use of fabrics are all present in Cos’s new collection. But there’s a subtlety to their designs too, which make these very fashion-forward sounding pieces infinitely wearable too. These are my picks from Cos’s new collection.

Wool jersey asymmetric top in grey melange wool, €69 at Cos

This sweater makes me so excited at the thought of September and chillier days. I love the oversized shape and ruched detailing. I’d probably pair it with something slimmer than this full skirt; maybe cropped pants or a sleek midi skirt.

Blazer-style cardigan, €125 at Cos

I love everything about this outfit, from head to toe, but I especially like the rust coloured cardigan. There’s nothing sloppy about this cover up (cardigans get a bad rep for adding a dishevelled look to an outfit). It’s beautifully tailored and could double-up as a blazer over a smart shirt.

Uterque

This Spanish online retailer is Zara’s sibling, so has a similar aesthetic but with a more high-end look (and prices to match). It does smart tailoring beautifully, and uses colour in a really fresh way. These are my favourite pieces.

Three-quarter length coat, €250 at uterque.com

I love the simplicity of this design. This coat is all about the cocoon silhouette and the vibrant raspberry shade of red. It will elevate the simplest of outfits.

Shirt with pleated hem, €99 at uterque.com

This blush-coloured blouse is very flattering on pale skin tones. I adore the contrast between the boyish collarless top half, and the pretty pleated hem finish. This would look wonderful pared with autumn’s richer hues like burgundy and forest green.

& Other Stories

H&M’s more grown-up sister offers good-quality pieces at a very accessible price point. I love its prints especially, and the footwear collections are always really strong. These are the pieces on my AW16 wish list.

Crepe dress in Porcelain, €55 at stories.com

I think every dress (and skirt) should be made with pockets. This simple tunic looks so effortlessly cool and will look equally good worn with tights in winter or leather leggings. This is a wear-anywhere piece for your wardrobe.

Bronze tone cropped trousers, €75 at stories.com

Perfect for autumnal days, these copper toned trousers look beautifully textured. Metallic tones are big for AW16, as are cropped pants, so they tick two trend boxes immediately. I’d wear these to the office with a sweater, and with a silk T-shirt for dinner. Gorgeously multi-functional.
