Robyn Flanagan: A week in my wardrobe

Inheriting her love of fashion from her mum, who owns Kalu boutique in Kildare, Robyn Flanagan describes her style as classic and timeless, leaning toward quality pieces that she will wear time and again. Here she shares a week in her wardrobe.

MONDAY

Today is a work day for me and I’m wearing a black and white stripe dress. I love wearing a dress, mostly because it makes getting ready in the morning super easy. I normally find it difficult to find dresses that I like in autumn/winter but I bought this one last year from Emporium Kalu and I just know it will be a piece I will pull out each year and love! I would describe my style as quite classic and timeless… maybe even a little masculine sometimes. I don’t really follow trends. I like to invest in timeless pieces that won’t date, but at the same time, I also love baggy boyfriend jeans, oversized jackets and chunky shoes.

TUESDAY

I choose my look each morning depending on what the day entails, but also how I’m feeling. Today I’m mostly working, but later this evening I’m heading into the city so I want to feel a little more elevated. I’m a casual girl at heart so for me this skirt and oversized knit are the perfect mix of casual and dressy. Here I’m wearing them with my Celine loafers and gold ankle socks. I often get asked if the Celine loafers are a good investment and the answer is yes! They’re the perfect chunky shoes for autumn/winter season – I’m heading into my third season of wearing them.

WEDNESDAY

No week in my wardrobe would be complete without at least one day in activewear! I’m currently studying to become a Pilates instructor so my day will be spent in the studio working on my class plans and studying for my exams. Lululemon is my absolute favourite brand for activewear. The fit and quality are just superb… if you know, you know. I’m wearing the Align leggings in black, and I’ve paired them with an Anine Bing sweatshirt that I recently bought, Celine sunglasses and my Birkenstocks. These are super handy to slip on when I’m running out the door to a class!

THURSDAY

I spent most of today working and studying from home (not hugely exciting), however, I did manage to make myself look somewhat presentable as my husband and I had a little date night. I’m wearing an off-the-shoulder top by a brand called Francoise and I just adore the bow. It’s no secret that I love a bow… so much so, that I included a big bow on the back of my < target="_blank" rel="noopener">wedding dress! This top is from a few seasons ago but I just love pulling it out. It’s super easy to wear and instantly elevates your look. I’ve kept it simple and teamed it with a pair of boyfriend jeans and my black Dior slingbacks

FRIDAY

We’re in Doonbeg for the weekend with our dog Harry, which means lots of beach walks and cosy dinners. I recently bought these jeans on Matches from a brand called Raey, and I have been living in them. I’m such a jeans girlie no matter what the season. I’m always on the lookout for a new style and wash. One of the best investments you can make in your wardrobe is buying good quality jeans that you will have for years and years. My favourite brands are Raey, Toteme, and Agolde. Here, I’ve paired them with a light cashmere jumper, a wool jacket (both from Emporium Kalu), and my Dior bag. I have been searching for the perfect oversized jacket for the new season and this is it! My shoes are the Chanel dad sandals and I absolutely adore them… they’re so me!

SATURDAY

We’re having a very chilled Saturday just lounging around the cottage and watching movies by the fire. I’m back in my Raey boyfriend jeans (I didn’t lie when I said I was living in them!) and a navy cardigan. When I shop, I will always buy quality over quantity. I like to invest in a few key pieces each season that I know I’ll wear over and over again. Coming into the new season, that will mostly consist of cashmere, jeans and a new coat or jacket. Of course, I will also treat myself to one or two special pieces, but I’m always very exact and decisive in what I buy. Most of the pieces in my wardrobe I’ve had for years, and if I know I’m not going to wear something again, I’ll either sell, donate or recycle it.

We’re heading out for dinner tonight so I’ve had a quick outfit change. I’m wearing a black one-shouldered top from a few years back, and I’ve just thrown my Hache wool jacket over my shoulders for a relaxed look.

SUNDAY

I love Sunday… it’s my favourite day of the week! Most Sundays I will lounge around in my pyjamas until noon drinking coffee in bed while watching Grey’s Anatomy. Today we had Sunday lunch reservations so I eventually pulled my sleepy head off the pillow and threw on something super casual. I feel most like me when I’m wearing an oversized knit and boyfriend jeans. I recently bought this cashmere jumper from Emporium Kalu and it is just so cosy and luxurious! I especially love the cuff details. I’m wearing it with another pair of Raey jeans and my Chanel slingbacks. These were a recent birthday gift and I’m obsessed! I wear so much denim so I know I will love wearing these shoes.
