Nothing reminds me more of my childhood than a sundress. It’s one of those few items that looks right whether you’re age five or 50. The elasticated top, the cute shoulder ties and the relaxed, playful silhouette all remind me of summers in Wexford in the 1980s. When I wear a sundress I feel sweet, but not in a hokey way. Instead I begin to embody the lack of self-consciousness and cynicism that marks those early years in life. Sundresses aren’t made to shape, skim, smooth or lengthen. They just hang – loosely and effortlessly. What a joy. If you suddenly feel like stealing back a moment from your childhood, then, why not buy one of these gorgeous sundresses.

Who wouldn’t feel pretty in this dress? I like that this piece is in a subtle shade of blue rather than white, which might look a little Holy Communion-like.

I usually opt for a longer-length sundress, but if you’ve got the legs for it, this Mango piece is lovely. The statement print is fabulous and I love the combination of navy and yellow. It feels very modern.

This is one of my favourites sundresses in stores now. The delicate embroidery adds an elegance and the Bardot neckline a sensuousness that admittedly isn’t like the sundresses of old! But it’s a beautiful, easy-to-wear piece.
