Growing up, there were certain unspoken fashion rules we were supposed to adhere by. There was the “pink and green should never be seen” and the “pink and red, would rather be caught dead”. I remember sixteen-year-old me being scolded by friends for wearing my favourite pink Spice Girls T-shirt with red cargo pants. How dare I. It was all the talk at school, naturally, and I regretted nothing.

My teenage self is back with a bang this season – although, regrettably without my Spice Girls T-shirt – and I’m ready to embrace this colour-trend once more. This time, however, with more sophistication and inspiration. Here are three easy steps to try if you’re ready to tackle this powerful autumnal colour block trend.
Choose contrasting tones in red and pink that compliment one another. The same tone can seem harsh on the eyes and you could end up looking more overly-riped strawberry than chic and sophisticated. Personally, I like wearing lighter shades on top – like this sweet baby pink sweater from Nakd Fashion – and darker shades on the bottom.

Mix and match with different textures and patterns. Materials like velour will hit the light perfectly, while these structured pants will keep the look refined and neat. The silver belt buckle compliments the sheen off of the blouse, too.

And don’t be afraid to accessorise. If you’re not ready to go full-on Gigi Hadid-style in head-to-toe pink and red, choose subtle red accents throughout your outfit instead. I love this bright red beret from H&M which works perfectly on its own or themed with other tones of red or pink.
