The 3 Secrets Of Scandi Style

by Marie Kelly

I spent 24 hours in Stockholm earlier this week, and in that short space of time, I was able to take away three definitive indicators of Scandi style. Without seeming to generalise, the women I met there (I was visiting the & Other Stories Atelier) had a consistency about how they dressed. Each anchored her outfit in neutrals like black, white and grey. All wore low-heeled or flat shoes, and almost every one of them injected a pop of colour or pattern into their outfits but in a very individual way. If you want to shop like cool Scandi Pernille Teisbaek (above), try these pieces on for size.

This side stripe sweater is cosy but contemporary, with it’s athleisure-inspired detailing. It gives a plain black sweater personality.

Neutrals can begin to look boring very quickly if you don’t choose pieces that have some distinguishing detail. This Cos dress is ideal with its elegant draped neckline.

Classic black Chelsea boots are given a fresh twist with pearl embellishments on the heel. Scandi chic very much embraces the classic but in a modern way.

Scandinavian style is anchored by quality fabrics such as cashmere. A plain textured sweater in a flattering shade will complement neutrals and inject a point of difference to your look.
