Stuck for something to wear on Saturday night? A velvet blazer will elevate any outfit from day to night

I tend to fill my wardrobe with separates, simply because by mixing and matching them, it’s easy to feel like you’re wearing something new every other day. Pieces feel fresh again when they’re reimagined in different pairings. I recently bought a blue velvet jacket from Benetton, below, which I adore and wear with everything from black trousers and trainers to a pink sequin skirt. It’s an absolutely brilliant buy, because it’s a terrific outfit “elevator”; the luxuriousness of velvet means it will dress up everything and add a certain polish to your look every time.

So if you’re looking for something that will add a bit of pizazz to your Saturday night staples. Try a velvet blazer. Here are some of my favourites.

You wouldn’t necessarily consider checks and velvet together, but this piece works so well and feels really unique.

The crinkle effect of this Topshop jacket adds extra texture to this piece, while the fuchsia pink makes a bold statement. This is a perfect party wear piece.

This colour green is a great alternative to black. It’s less harsh on pale skin tones, and it will work with both neutrals and primary colours equally well.

Burgundy is one of my favourite colours to wear at this time of year. There’s something quite regal about it when reimagined in velvet. Look how this blazer dresses up a simple black top and jeans so easily? Perfect for a Saturday night out.
