The high street store collaborated with Information Designer Giorgia Lupi to form the new collection
One of our favourite high street stop-offs & Other Stories has landed a new collaboration that pairs data and design together in the chicest way. And it’s already making waves — the puffer jacket, a key piece from the collection, sold out almost immediately.
The collection was formed with New York-based Information Designer Giorgia Lupi, who, through her innovative methods of blending data science with art and design, has conceptualised hand-drawn printed designs around three groundbreaking female scientists.
Ada Lovelace, who is considered to be the first computer programmer, inspired Lupi to create a colourful geometric pattern based on the algorithm that was Lovelace’s most important work.
NASA astronaut Mae Jemison was the first woman of colour in space, and inspired Lupi to create a pattern based on her orbits and experiments in space.
Lupi said: “The success of her mission is a celebration of her dedication to overcome challenges and the realization that to create change you need multiple perspectives. The pattern designs are a visualisation of the orbits and a testament of her memory from her journey into space.”
And finally, author and environmentalist Rachel Carson was commemorated in colour-coded embroidery, visualising the analysis in her seminal book Silent Spring.
“The pattern is built to reveal the interconnected structure and contents of her book — represented by the different techniques on the garment, such as embroidery and colour codes,” said Lupi.
