Rowing Blazers has all the elements of Diana’s timeless style
Watching (and rewatching) season four of The Crown this week has given us a newfound appreciation for Princess Diana’s timeless style. From bright patterned knits to perfectly oversized tailoring, you can spot Diana’s influence on many of 2020’s top trends – but if you’ve wanted to go one step further, a New York label has answered your prayers.
Self-proclaimed ‘preppy-chic’ label Rowing Blazers is the brainchild of former U.S national rowing team member Jack Carlson, who penned a coffee table book about the extravagant blazers of the world’s rowing teams during his time at Oxford. Interest in this particular style of irreverent tailoring piqued, and a new design house was born, with fans of its streetwear including Timothée Chalamet, Ezra Koenig and Macklemore.
For its Fall/Winter collection this year, Rowing Blazers tapped into the inevitable worldwide obsession with the new season of The Crown, and spearheaded a collaboration that would delight new and old fans of the Princess alike. Inspired by Diana’s iconic knitwear, including the famous pink crewneck adorned with the slogan “I’m a luxury few can afford”, the label has collaborated with the original designers of Diana’s pieces to recreate them for a 2020 audience.
Collaborating with Gyles & George and Warm & Wonderful, two high-end British knitwear design teams who enjoyed huge success in the 1980s, Rowing Blazers have recreated two of Diana’s most sought-after knits, as well as a line of t-shirts, tweed trousers, rugby tops, and, of course, blazers to complete the look. The knits are available for pre-order, while the other pieces can be purchased directly online.
