There’s been so much talk of separates over the past few years that many of us had started to forget the absolute show-stopping appeal of a fabulous dress. But this season, there’s no fear of that as designers sent swarms of stunning dresses down the runways across all the fashion capitals. From high end to high street, there’s an incredible selection of dresses to kickstart 2018 in, and here are five of our favourites.

I thought I was “over” cold-shoulder detailing until I saw this beautiful piece by Spanish online retailer Uterque.com. From the delicate print and gentle ruffles to the beautiful diaphanous fabric, this dress is an exquisite buy for summer.

This is a very clever dress from Warehouse. Red is such a bold shade that the cut of a red dress must have a modicum of modesty about it to avoid looking cheap or brash. The polo-neck neckline delivers this, but the pretty frill cap sleeve adds balance, which, along with the flared skirt, creates a feminine but modern silhouette.

Although this dress is from Massimo Dutti’s AW collection, it will see you through spring/summer beautifully. It’s one of my favourite pieces from last year and it would make an elegant addition to any woman’s wardrobe. Navy has made a strong presence on the catwalks over the last couple of years and is a chic colour choice for evening wear in particular.

This really is a show-stopper dress, with it’s fitted silhouette, lace detailing and short hem. Keep make-up minimal and hair unfussy if you want to look modern and sophisticated.

Sequins and shine are as big a trend for SS18 as they were for Christmas 2017, so this silver ruffle dress is a great buy. I love how it’s been styled here; very casually with a pair of flats. It adds a touch of cool to traditional cocktail wear.
