Five of the best balm cleansers

by Aisling Keenan

Balm cleansers are luxurious to use, efficient at removing every kind of make-up and above all, they’re kind to your skin. These are the five balms I turn to for a soothing cleansing experience…

When choosing a type of cleanser, there are lots of textures, scents, strenghts and styles to pick from. My personal all-time favourite cleansing experience is without a doubt with balm cleansers. I love the melting texture, I love that my skin never feels parched after use, I love that they all contain nourishing oils and never feel harsh on the skin.

Here are my top five, and I’ll also let you in on my personal no.1 choice.

For a unique technique, try…

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm

€59 from cloud10beauty.com

With this one, Emma Hardie herself recommends cleansing in a linear motion as opposed to our natural inclination to move our fingers in circles. She believes this to be the best method, and who am I to argue with her. Takes time to break the habit of a lifetime, but for this cleanser to work best I never minded trying it!

For a spa-like experience, try…

Elemis Pro-collagen Cleansing Balm

€56.50 from debenhams.ie

With Elemis being a spa range, this one feels especially luxurious, even as balm cleansers go. I love going entirely bougie and lighting a candle while I cleanse with this. Divine.

For a gentle exfoliation, try…

Eve Lom Creme Demaquillante Cleanser

€75 from evelom.com

Because this is the first balm cleanser I’d ever tried, it’s still my favourite to this day. I love the smell, I love the gentle grittiness that helps slough off the tougher bits of dead skin, and I love how soft and silky my skin feels after using it.

Ren Rosa Centifolia No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm

€28 from meagherspharmacy.ie

You mix this one with water (I add it to a dampened face) to get a milky result that is strong enough to remove eye make-up but gentle enough not to mess with super-sensitive skin. Like most of Ren’s products, it’s cruelty-free and vegan friendly.

For a natural and sustainable option, try…

€25.95 from meagherspharmacy.ie

If you want an all-natural option, this one is ideal. It comes with a sustainably produced cotton cloth too, and contains rosehip, coconut and mango so your skin feels soft and supple after use.
