A former school house in Gorvagh, Co. Leitrim, this traditional stone cottage comes to market in excellent condition.

Nestled on approximately two acres of land, the Old School House at Glasdrumman, Gorvagh, combines traditional and contemporary aspects. Closing its doors to the public in 1970, the property was purchased and fully refurbished to its current condition in 1997.

First built in 1900, the building is a true piece of Leitrim history, well-known and beloved by locals. Retaining much of its original architectural charm, the stone-clad exterior harks back to times gone by, while inside, high ceilings and large windows enhance the interior.

The property is approached via a short gravel drive – with ample parking space. A red front door opens onto a flagstone-floor hallway. Further inside is the open-plan dining/living room, with vaulted ceilings, solid wood flooring and a lovely antique fireplace.

The kitchen, accessed via a connecting doorway, is narrow but conveniently laid out to make the most of the area. Cabinets line the walls at both high and low level, offering plenty of storage and counter space. Highlights include a Belfast sink, beautiful red brick accents and a large window which floods the space with natural light. Appliances range from a dishwasher, to a washing machine and fridge/freezer.

Solid wood flooring has been fitted in all three bedrooms – one of which is currently being used as a cosy sitting room – while the bathroom has black and white tiles, a shower, whb and antique wc.

A spiral staircase connects the living/dining room with the upstairs mezzanine.

Outside, the property is surrounded by nature with mature planting and a small fruit tree orchard. Located just a 10-minute drive from the scenic towns of Mohill and Ballinamore, the property is well-situated with myriad amenities nearby including local shops, restaurants, and schools. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are also a number of nature trails, fishing spots and other activities in the vicinity. Carrick-on-Shannon is approximately 25 minutes away where you’ll find yet more facilities and scenic walking trails.

Spanning 1,022 square ft, the property has buckets of potential and could be used as a family home, a boutique guesthouse or as an artist’s studio.

Currently on sale through Abbey Property Sales, the Old School House is on the market for €279,000. Take a closer look inside this traditional stone cottage in our gallery below.
