In his first live stunt in a decade, magician David Blaine is attempting to fly over the Arizona desert holding helium balloons

At approximately 3.30pm today, magician David Blaine will attempt his first live stunt in nearly 10 years.

The death-defying stunt will involve Blaine floating high into the air over the Arizona desert while holding 52 helium-filled balloons.

Blaine originally wanted to stage ‘Ascension’ in his hometown of New York, flying over the Hudson River. However, the forecast for wind conditions and overall safety concerns prompted his team to move the event to Arizona.

His goal is to reach 18,000 feet above the ground, before parachuting back to the ground.

Despite the obvious risks, which include hypothermia and hypoxia, Blaine is confident that the stunt will “turn worry into wonder and take magic to new heights”.
