Megan O’Neill wrote a song for all the ex-pats who are missing home

It’s hard not to feel the ache of homesickness when you move away. We miss our nearest and dearest of course, but we also miss our home country, its culture and its quirks.

Kildare artist Megan O’Neill knows the feeling only too well. The singer, who has toured with Sir Tom Jones across the UK, was living in London when she was compelled to write a song — a love letter of sorts — to Ireland.

“I moved away from home at 21 and at that age, couldn’t wait to move away, travel, live abroad and tour all over the world as a musician,” she explains.

“But as the years passed I realised how much I had learned to love Ireland, having left it. All the small things — the way everyone in a tiny Irish town knows you (and all your business!), the late night sing-songs in the local pub, the greenness — everywhere.

“I’m living back in Ireland now — after seven years abroad — and couldn’t be happier about that.”

Megan finished production on this song a few months ago. The full album — her fourth studio release — is set for release later this year and Ireland will be featured on it.
