Sweet and savoury delights abound — these are the top 10 recipes trending on Google right now

Cooking has been on the rise since the lockdown forced its culinary hand on many of us restaurant-reliant mortals.

The hardest part has been staying creative in the kitchen, and people have taken to Googling new recipes to try.

From swiss rolls to beef stroganoff, these are the top ten Googled recipes in Ireland over the last month.

Something Sweet

1. Rhubarb recipes

It’s no surprise rhubarb is trending while it’s in season; must-trys include rhubarb crumble muffins (BBC GoodFood) and Mary Berry’s rhubarb and lemon pots.

2. Swiss roll

There’s nothing tastier than a homemade swiss roll with fresh cream and jam. Try this raspberry swiss roll recipe (BBC GoodFood) or a chocolate and coffee swiss roll with vanilla creme (Sally’s Baking Addiction).

3. Scone recipes

Scones are surprisingly easy to make and there are so many flavours you can experiment with. Keep it simple with classic scones with jam and clotted cream (BBC GoodFood) and basic buttermilk scones (Taste) or make some savoury bacon-cheddar-chive scones (King Arthur Flour) to go with a bowl of tomato soup.

4. Banana bread

No surprises here! Banana bread is a great way to utilise overripe bananas, plus it’s delicious and easy to make without an electric mixer (just mash the bananas with your potato masher). Sally’s Baking Addiction has a scrumptious banana bread recipe with cinnamon and vanilla.

5. Lemon cheesecake

This summer dessert is super simple and easy to make for the whole family. This no-bake lemon cheesecake is made with creamy mascarpone (BBC GoodFood).

6. Sangria

This weekend is predicted to be warm and sunny — the perfect time to sit out in your back garden and refresh with a cool, fruity glass of sangria. Try an extra boozy rendition with lemon, limes, oranges and cherries (All Recipe) or red wine sangria with apple and orange flavours.

(You can also make sangria ice pops by leaving out the soda water and pouring the mixture into moulds before freezing).

Something Savoury

7. Beef Stroganoff

This hearty, Russian dinner recipe is a creamy pasta treat. Donal Skehan’s beef stroganoff recipe is one of the best by far, made with mushrooms, garlic, leeks, paprika and white wine.

8. Brown bread

Many have been craving the comforts of homemade brown bread. We recommend trying this delicious Guinness bread rendition or Bord Bia’s traditional brown soda bread.

9. Coleslaw

Titled ‘Seriously Good Homemade Coleslaw’, this fresh and zingy coleslaw recipe (Inspired Taste) is topped with an apple cider vinegar dressing and goes well on braised beef or pork sliders.

10. Hummus

Make your own roasted red pepper hummus (Inspired Taste) or easy pesto hummus (Tasty). We recommend buying canned chickpeas to save time (you really can’t tell the difference!).
