Celebrities reading bedtime stories is the latest trend. Tune in to see Tom Hardy, Dolly Parton, Jude Law and more lead evening storytimes for children

Being in lockdown has its pros and cons, but for most of us, especially parents, days seem to be filled with unrest, overtiredness and well… just a lot.

Not only do mums and dads have to be constant caretakers, but we’ve had to take on the roles of school teacher and entertainer as well.

We love our kids unconditionally but, to be honest, we’re all a bit sick of one another after being stuck in the same house with the same company.

So, if you’re looking to change up the bedtime routine or your kids just need a break from hearing your voice, try watching a celebrity bedtime story.

The internet is flooded with famous actresses, singers and hosts reading classic and new children’s stories.

#SaveWithStories: Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne, Reese Witherspoon and more

In partnership with Save the Children and No Kid Hungry, actresses Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams started Instagram live initiative #SaveWithStories

Their goal is to not only help fill the educational gap in children’s lives but the nutrition one too, keeping “brains and bellies full”. All donations go to Save the Children and No Kid Hungry charities.

Their Insta page is full of videos of celebrities reading bedtime stories, including Jude Law, Terry Crews, Winnie Harlow, Eddie Redmayne, Steve Carell, Lupita Nyong’o, Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Zoe Saldana.

“Goodnight with Dolly”: Dolly Parton

Musical icon Dolly Parton recently started a YouTube show called “Goodnight with Dolly”, where she reads books from Imagination Library, her non-profit book-gifting program for kids.

The 10-week series premieres every Friday on her channel, which already has two episodes available. In the third episode, which debuts tomorrow, the country singer will be reading Llama Llama Red Pajama.

CBeebies by BBC: Tom Hardy, Alesha Dixon and more

This week on CBeebies’ ‘Bedtime Stories’, celebrities like singer Alesha Dixon and comedian Rob Delaney have read bedtime stories each evening.

However, from April 27 – May 1, Tom Hardy will return to read weekday nights at 6:50pm on the CBeebies channel. Some stories will even feature his pet French bulldog Blue.

Tune in to the CBeebies channel or watch a replay on their Youtube channel or BBC iPlayer.

Benedict Cumberbatch

More of a daytime read than nighttime, Benedict Cumberbatch reads this enrapturing Lewis Carroll poem, ‘Jabberwocky’.

In the true spirit of Alice in Wonderland, the poem is filled with whimsical words that playfully balance the scary tale. Plus his soothing, robust voice is nearly impossible to stop listening to.
