Due to the postponement of Darkness Into Light, Pieta asks people to participate in Sunrise Appeal to show community and solidarity with those impacted by suicide
Because of Covid-19 restrictions, Pieta House’s annual Darkness into Light project has been postponed until October 3.
Pieta provides free therapy to those engaging in self-harm, with suicidal ideation, or bereaved by suicide and has reached nearly 60,000 people since the program’s start in 2006.
The yearly Darkness Into Light run is a vital way to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by suicide and self harm.
So, the organisation has encouraged its community to take place in a virtual gathering called Sunrise Appeal.
To participate, set your alarms for 5:30am on May 9, and be sure to take a photo of your sunrise moment, adding the hashtags #DILSunriseAppeal and #DIL2020.
And don’t forget to wear a Darkness Into Light t-shirt, or anything yellow, if you can to show solidarity with the rest of the community.
Donations to the cause can be made here, and each euro funds Pieta’s life-saving prevention, intervention and bereavement services.
In the 2018 Darkness Into Light run, over 200,000 people took part in 150 locations, in 16 countries across 5 continents.
This year many people are isolated and vulnerable at home, so it’s important to show everyone that they are not alone.
