The biggest night in Hollywood happened on Sunday night, and in terms of the sartorial offerings, chiffon, tulle gowns and hot pink as the go-to hue ruled the 2019 Oscars red carpet.

Gemma Chan, Angela Bassett, Helen Mirren, Maya Rudolph, Sarah Paulson and Linda Cardellini all sported the bright colour at the 91st annual Academy Awards. Chan is a style icon on the rise; her high-neck fuchsia taffeta gown with expanding frills from Valentino’s most recent Couture collection will no doubt feature on almost every best-dressed list.

Charlize Theron’s simple and elegant dusty-blue Dior haute couture choice perfectly complemented her sleek brunette bob and was also a favourite.

Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu was one of the first on the red carpet and her off-the-shoulder custom yellow Atelier Versace gown was also a standout.

Laura Harrier also looked glorious in an ethical and eco-responsible Louis Vuitton creation custom made in silk, embroidered with glass beads, Swarovski crystal shards, and sequins.

And how could we leave out Lady Gaga? She was one of the last to arrive but wowed in an Audrey Hepburn-inspired custom, sculptural black gown by Alexander McQueen with elbow-length black gloves that made the look her own. She paired the look with a 128 carat Tiffany diamond necklace (last worn by Hepburn herself).
