Kanye West is running for US president and he has the support of Elon Musk

While this isn’t the first time Kanye West has announced his presidential plans, people are taking him seriously this time around

Kanye West recently took to Twitter to announce his run for US president.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” he said.

“I am running for president of the United States. #2020VISION”

The wrapper made the announcement yesterday, quite fittingly on America’s Independence Day, and immediately received a flood of comments.

One of those comments was made by West’s good friend, billionaire and Tesla tycoon, Elon Musk.

Musk commented on West’s post saying, “You have my full support!”

Can we take his announcement seriously?

In the past, the rapper has had a fickle relationship with American politics.

West previously announced his presidency plans back in 2015 at the MTV Video Music Awards but not much came of it after he demonstrated his support for Donald Trump.

For years, he continually praised Trump in interviews and frequently wore his iconic “Make America Great Again” hat.

Then, in late 2018, after years of facing backlash from fans, West said he was stepping back from political involvement altogether and just focusing on music.

And while his recent announcement declaring a presidential campaign may be another whim, many are taking it more seriously this time around.

One popular theory is that West is still a Trump supporter who is running to pull votes away from Joe Biden. However, the rapper’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement suggests otherwise.

He was seen participating in Black Lives Matter protests in Chicago and donated $2 million to George Floyd’s daughter for her college fund.

It could be that the rapper has finally had enough of racial injustice in the US and wants to make a difference. And, with the support of the influential Elon Musk, his running could be very serious indeed, but only time will tell.
