Our IMAGE hero piece of the week is this Zara jumper dress

With the weather becoming increasingly chilly and the desire to wear only thermals and jumpers as intense as ever, it can be hard to find a wardrobe staple that can be classified as dressy but also practical.

We have to be realistic, we are in the depths of January. Attempting to wear your floaty Zimmerman inspired dress is a pipedream, but your susceptibility to frostbite while doing so is not. But, there is one solution that I have welcomed with abandon into my wardrobe; the jumper dress.

Wearable, comfortable and practical, it’s one of the easiest ways to inject the illusion of dressing up without the uncontrollable shivering. This cream number is a recent purchase from Zara and was a steal at €20 and comes in three colours; cream, grey and red. This is my first, but I am already well on my way to purchasing all three.

The beauty of the classic jumper dress is that it can be worn in a myriad of different ways. Dress it up, dress it down or add and take away accessories as you please. The material is stretchy, which means comfort. Sizing up will give a looser, more relaxed fit that skims over the body; while staying true to size will appear more bodycon in style. The flattering cut also means this dress is perfect for all body shapes and will quickly become one of the most versatile items in your wardrobe.

And I for one love versatility, which is why I have shown two ways in which you can style this absolute hero piece below.

Look 1

I paired the dress with a pair of classic black knee-high boots, a black beret and a belt to give the dress more structure and shape.

Look 2

To make the dress more night-out appropriate, I added a pair of red leopard print platform heels from Penneys to add a pop of colour and some height to my short frame. Removing the belt and beret and replacing it with an on-trend pearl hairclip refined the outfit to help create a more simple, sophisticated and no hassle look.

And yes, my legs were frozen but it was all in the name of fashion.
