Heal’s London Launches Month-Long Design Ireland Initiative

Following the success of ID2015, luxury British retailer Heal’s?has partnered?with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland to present a capsule of modern Irish furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles, glass and gifts…

In our January-February issue, we wrote about how?the work of our native artists and craftspeople has captured the imagination of the?international design sphere: a transition that is now being reflected in the broader retail market.?This week, Heal’s London launched?the largest retail presentation of Irish made design in London in decades.

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland?has worked closely with Heal’s to curate a presentation of work by 20 of Ireland’s leading designers and makers across the disciplines of furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles glass and gifts?to coincide with Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 17.?

A?three-week programme of in-store events will include Irish designers and makers demonstrating their craft in Heal’s iconic windows. Featured designers and makers include BTU Studio glassblowers (pictured at the top of this post), Ceadog?n rug makers, Superfolk, Adam Frew ceramics, Mullan Lighting, Hennesy & Byrne tableware and many more.

Karen Hennessy, the?DCCoI’s chief executive, says, ?We are honoured to be collaborating with Heal’s in presenting the Design Ireland programme.
