We’re into the season of bank holidays, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier. Three full days of exploring Dublin is always made better when the weather plays along. Put your green thumbs to good use this weekend and visit Ireland’s largest gardening event in the gorgeous setting of the Phoenix Park. Bloom is now in its 12th year, and has everything a gardening-lover could want from a weekend festival – creative displays, garden design, horticulture and more. And, since it’s sponsored by Bord Bia, there’s a heavy focus on food and drink, featuring events with Ireland’s top chefs and honing in on the country’s agriculture. Always a must-see every June bank holiday.
If you can’t get enough of the floral vibes over the weekend, head to Grafton Street from Phoenix Park to check out & Other Stories garden display. They’ve teamed up with The Garden’s Mark Grehan to create a bespoke pop-up instore, where customers can buy unique bouquets and house plants to take home. & Other Stories is always a fresh, gorgeous space, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy summer foliage too.
If you’re a gin lover (like the rest of the country), you’ll want to be heading to the Bernard Shaw this weekend for Gin Fusion. Tastings; workshops; markets; classes; cocktail bars; food; live music – all centring around the city’s favourite drink will be taking place in association with Eatyard for the June bank holiday. The event is free, but first come, first served. If you want to secure your spot, you can grab a ticket for €10, which gets you guaranteed entry, a Beefeater 24 and Fevertree G+T on arrival and a tenner’s worth of food at Eatyard. No-brainer.
For whatever reason, Irish people just seem to love looking at tall ships. It’s the same as the Air Show in Bray every year – I think the Irish just really enjoy transportation methods. In any case, every summer without fail, the Tall Ships Regatta is packed full of families and couples catching a glimpse of these historic ships, as they make their way from Liverpool to Dublin to the Bay of Biscay before finishing up in Bordeaux. Such a nice day out if you’ve got kids in tow.
If dance/house music, amazing visuals, good craic and a stunning setting is your bag for a bank holiday, then Forbidden Fruit is the place to be. Featuring artists like Vince Staples, Thundercat and Glass Animals across the three days, this Bulmers-sponsored event always signals the start of Dublin’s summer and is a great way to celebrate the weather.
