Comics and Cher – your weekend is sorted with our guide to What’s On

This weekend sees the tail end of many of the city’s best festivals coming to an end; there’s still plenty of tickets available for some great events with Dublin Podcast Festival and Dublin Theatre Festival if you fancy it. If not, fear not – the city is buzzing with things to do, including sing-alongs (Cher or Madonna, who’s your pick?), architecture, comics and literature. Have a whale of a weekend from IMAGE!

On Friday: Open up at Emilie Pine’s Notes to Self

Just a few weeks ago, we were lucky enough to have author-extraordinaire Emilie Pine as a special guest in our live recording of The Spill, and she blew us away with her insights into life as a modern woman in Ireland. We’re buzzing to get more of her, and her discussion (with none other than comedian Tara Flynn) in the Civic Theatre in Tallaght this Friday is absolutely unmissable. If you like honest, funny and raw chats among women, this is for you.

All weekend: Be inspired at the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Open House

When was the last time you stopped to take a look at the city’s architecture? We spend all our time walking around the city, and not enough time appreciating its beauty. This weekend’s Open House event aims to change that, showcasing the city’s best attractions and offering expert tours to the public for free. For the majority of tours, you can just turn up half an hour before, and for special events, check out their website to book.

On Sunday: Be artistic at the Dublin Comic Arts Festival

If you’re a lover of homegrown Irish art, then the Comic Art Festival in the Generator Hostel in Smithfield is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Showcasing Irish artist’s best work (for display and for sale), you can just have a browse or stick around to catch some of the great workshops and labs by the Comics Lab, which will be great if you’re an aspiring artist yourself. Free admission.

On Sunday: Choose your fighter at Cher vs Madonna at the Sugar Club

“A clash of the titans. A battle to end all battles. A diva-off to trump all diva-offs.” The Sugar Club are taking this week’s event seriously. Starting at 7:30pm and rolling til 10:30pm (your Monday morning is safe), the city’s die-hard diva fans will gather in the Sugar Club for a sing-off to end all sing-offs. Tickets are €6 if you buy ahead of time, or a tenner on the door, and 20% of sales will go to the Dublin Simon Community. An all-round wholesome night.
