Don’t let the dull and dreary weather get to you. Instead, lift your spirits and your home with splashes of winter brights. Velvet cushions, winter throws and cosy textiles will add colour and warmth to beds, sofas and armchairs. Spaces instantly become more inviting with the smallest addition of colour: neon candles and bright ceramics can lift the darkest of rooms and a splash of paint can brighten the saddest nook. Here are some affordable ways to add colour this winter.

Take one … take eleven. We love these velvet floor cushions, above, with a linen backing in a vast array of colours from raspberry to seal and mustard to coral. Velvet floor cushions, from €69, Graham & Green

Add some sunshine to your bedroom with this bright and uplifting 100% washed linen bedding. Quilt cover, from €118, Le Monde Sauvage

Add a vibrant twist by adding highlights of bright ceramics to an otherwise dark interior. Egito turquoise earthenware vase, around €29, Greta red stoneware jug, around €29, both Habitat

Pretty enough to act as an accent textile, and comfy enough to snuggle under. Modern Railroad plaid soft touch throw, around €68, West Elm

Be a bright spark and combine coloured glass candlesticks with even brighter fluorescent candles. Coloured glass candlesticks, around €15; Fluoro candles, around €3.50 each; Grahan & Green

Brighten a dreary morning by changing your breakfast table into a feast of colour. Linum Gran ribbed cotton table linen, from €31 for 4 tablemats, The Blue Door. Photo Jonas Ingerstedt

Cheer up a dark nook with a splash of Spicy Paprika from The Love Palette, Dulux 2019.
