Stop the presses: Kim Cattrall will make an appearance in And Just Like That…

However brief her cameo may be, news that Samantha Jones will be back on the scene is just the serotonin boost we needed.

And just like that… the world has meaning once again.

Though we enjoyed the first season of And Just Like That… and the discourse surrounding it quite a bit — because, let’s face it, any SATC is better than no SATC — the enormous gulf left by a Samantha Jones-less New York City was hard to ignore.

Though they attempted to bridge the gap with the odd transatlantic text message between Carrie and Samantha, a bouquet of flowers atop Big’s coffin, and a haphazard explanation that the pair had fallen out when Ms Bradshaw fired Ms Jones as her publicist, we missed the unapologetic debauchery of the eternally seductive PR maven.

Now, Variety have just confirmed that Kim Cattrall will reprise her role in the season two finale later this summer. Though the previous season ended with a promise that Carrie and Samantha would enjoy a cosmopolitan together in Paris someday, the culminating scene will reportedly revolve around a phone call.

So, it’s basically a sing-scene cameo. Reports say that Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or showrunner Michael Patrick King. It’s also been confirmed that SATC costume designer Patricia Field, who hadn’t been working on And Just Like That, dressed Samantha for her scene.

This comes just a year after SJP told Variety that she probably wouldn’t embrace Samantha’s in-person return. “I don’t think I would, because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” she said. “I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know.”

Over the years, Cattrall has spoken relatively candidly about the fact that she and her co-stars have never really been friends at all — a truly shocking revelation for many die-hard fans. In an interview with Piers Morgan, she said: “We’ve been colleagues and in some ways, it’s a very healthy place to be because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal.”

“This is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, is that I think she could have been nicer. I really think she could have been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is,” Kim said. “The thing that still bothers me is this feeling of being in some way made to be the baddie. I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.”

Though SJP had spoken about how heartbroken these comments made her feel, it wasn’t until she extended her sympathies to Cattrall after the passing of her brother via Instagram post. To which Kim responded with her own Instagram post: “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time.”

“My Mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’” the caption read. “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

Still and withall, SJP has maintained that there is no catfight, spat, or public dispute going on between the pair, and in reality, “there has been one person talking.” Whatever way you look at it, the only thing that really matters is the fact that Samantha Jones will be back on our screens, in some small capacity.

Though it may just be a single scene, no one can spin a one-liner like Miss Samantha Jones.

Premiering on HBO Max on 22 June, with Samantha’s appearance expected to come in August, we’re so ready for this.
