John Caldwell suspects
Eleven people have been arrested for the attempted murder of senior PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell at a sports complex in Omagh, Co Tyrone in February in an attack linked to dissident republicans. Nine men and two women, aged between 21 and 72 years old, were arrested this morning under the Terrorism Act in Omagh and Coalisland in Co Tyrone. The PSNI said it had carried out a “significant search and arrest operation”.
Simon Harris ‘far right’ worried
Minister for Justice Simon Harris has said he is “genuinely worried” about the far right following recent anti-migrant protests across the country. “There is a relatively small number – we shouldn’t overstate it because it is a small number – of what I call bad actors who are travelling around the country, who are in some cases involved in criminality and are stoking up fear,” he said on The Tonight Show. “I worry what they’re doing is exploiting local residents who can actually have concerns and questions, which is perfectly legitimate and I worry that starts to get mixed.”
Irish Water
Irish Water is still working on restoring water supply to areas in Dublin that have been affected by outages since yesterday, when a significant and high-pressure water main burst in Dublin’s south inner city and the supply was turned off while the issue was being resolved. Around 40,000 properties, including homes and businesses, have been impacted by the outage.
Aircraft with reported fire onboard lands safely at Cork Airport
A French military aircraft with 23 people on board landed safely at Cork Airport this morning, and emergency services have been stood down. The twin-prop ATR-type aircraft declared a midflight emergency and diverted to Cork triggering a major emergency response at the airport.
