Met Éireann’s Status Yellow ice warning will remain valid across all counties until 12pm today. They’ve forecast widespread frost and icy surfaces in places, leading to hazardous travel conditions. They have advised that pedestrians and road users exercise caution.

Hamburg shooting

Seven people have been killed and several more injured in a shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in the German city of Hamburg. The gunman — who is a former member of the religious community and is said to have acted alone — is also thought to be dead. Dramatic footage has now emerged that appears to show the suspect firing many rounds through a window of the hall.

Arrest made in connection with Cavan murder

Yesterday evening, a man in his 50s was discovered with fatal head injuries after a frantic call to emergency services was made after a suspected assault in Blacklion, Co Cavan. A man in his 30s was arrested a number of hours later, and Gardaí are investigating who made the call that alerted them to the horrific scene.

Covid Tracker app to be ‘decommissioned’

Expected to be decommissioned this summer, the Covid Tracker app cost €811,227 to launch with over €100,000 spent on support and development in the six months after it launched. This is because EU regulations no longer require countries to issue vaccine certificates.

CMAT wins Irish album of the year

The RTÉ Choice Music Prize took place last night in Vicar Street, with CMAT being named the winner of Album of the Year for ‘If My Wife New I’d Be Dead’. The winner receives €10,000, a prize fund provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). As CMAT is currently away on tour, drag queen Lavender collected the award on her behalf.
