March is a busy month for our Irish actors. Jessie Buckley stars in Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride!, while Cillian Murphy returns as Thomas Shelby and Barry Keoghan makes his appearance as his son in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man – here is what to watch this month.

March 4

Young Sherlock, Amazon Prime

With all the wit and charm of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes feature films, Young Sherlock follows the origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character’s early days. Sherlock Holmes is a disgraced young man – raw and unfiltered – when he finds himself wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his liberty. His first-ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life forever. Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Netflix

Cillian Murphy returns to our screens as Tommy Shelby amid the chaos of World War II. Returning from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet, the future of his family and country is at stake, and Shelby must face his demons and choose whether to confront his legacy or burn it to the ground. Barry Keoghan also joins the cast as Tommy Shelby’s son, Duke.

The Bride!, cinemas everywhere

The synopsis for the film reads: “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman, and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police, and a wild and radical social movement. Jessie Buckley stars as the titular character, Christian Bale plays Frankenstein’s monster, and Maggie Gyllenhaal directs.

The Dinosaurs, Netflix

Get ready for an epic journey into a lost world. From executive producer Steven Spielberg and the award-winning team behind Our Planet, this groundbreaking documentary series follows the rise and fall of the dinosaurs across hundreds of millions of years. Narrated by Academy Award–winner Morgan Freeman.

March 7

Formula 1: Drive to Survive S8, Netflix

Offering unprecedented access, this new season will once again take fans behind the scenes to witness firsthand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out for the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The series will offer never-before-seen footage as we follow new team lineups, management takedowns, fierce friendships and bitter rivalries of another high-octane season on the Formula 1 circuit. Formula 1: Drive to Survive is executive-produced by Academy-Award winner James Gay-Rees (Amy, Senna) and Paul Martin (Diego Maradona) for Box to Box Films.

March 11

Scarpetta, Amazon Prime

Scarpetta brings Patricia Cornwell’s iconic literary character to life in a gripping series starring Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta. With skilled hands and an unnerving eye, this unrelenting medical examiner is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn’t also her undoing. Set against the backdrop of modern forensic investigation, the series delves beyond the crime scene to explore the psychological complexities of both perpetrators and investigators, creating a multi-layered thriller that examines the toll of pursuing justice at all costs.

Louis Theroux: Inside The Manosphere, Netflix

Louis Theroux’s first Netflix feature-length documentary sees him travel to Miami, New York and Marbella to meet a network of influencers and content creators at the heart of the extreme end of the Manosphere. The 90-minute film explores how key figures, including Harrison Sullivan (AKA HS Tikky Tokky), Myron Gaines, Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy (AKA Sneako), Justin Waller and Ed Matthews, are helping to reshape young men’s ideas about masculinity and fuelling a resurgent global men’s rights movement. Louis immerses himself in their ecosystem, encountering prominent figures within the movement, each presenting their own interpretations of traditional gender roles and values. He becomes familiar with some of their language, including terms such as “red-pilling”, and examines the appeal of these ideas and attitudes, as well as the perspectives of the women in their lives who appear to support them.

March 12

Virgin River, Netflix

Virgin River is a romance story centred on nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) move to the remote California town of Virgin River. Yearning for a fresh start, Monroe discovered that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected and that she had to learn to heal herself before she could truly make Virgin River her home. The series is based on the New York Times bestseller and beloved Harlequin book series written by author Robyn Carr and is returning for its seventh season.

March 13 

Reminders of Him, cinemas everywhere

Sometimes, for better or worse, your whole life can turn on a split-second event. Nobody knows that better than Kenna (Maika Monroe), who returns to her hometown under a cloud of guilt, looking to build bridges with her daughter, and finding compassion in unlikely places. Based on the novel by Colleen Hoover.

How to Make A Killing, cinemas everywhere

Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell) sets out to reclaim the $28B family fortune his mother was denied. To pull off his ambitious scheme, he must kill the seven relatives who stand in his way, while navigating love, deception and wicked betrayals

One Last Deal, cinemas everywhere

Directed by Irish filmmaker Brendan Muldowney (Pilgrimage, The Cellar), the film sees Dyer (The Football Factory, Marching Powder, Rivals) take centre stage as Jimmy Banks, an old school football agent who desperately needs to get his troubled star footballer one last big payday before Jimmy’s life, and his player’s reputation, comes tumbling down. When the prospect of a major new deal with a promising young player appears, Jimmy sees a route to get himself back on top, but when a blackmailer calls, and the shady dealings of his past resurface, can Jimmy keep calm and get the job done?

March 18

Imperfect Women, Apple TV

Based on Araminta Hall’s novel of the same name, Imperfect Women examines a crime that shatters the lives of three women in a decades-long friendship. The unconventional thriller explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that irrevocably alter our lives. As the investigation unravels, so does the truth about how even the closest friendships may not be what they seem. Starring Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara.

March 20

Project Hail Mary, cinemas everywhere

Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly returns, he soon discovers he must solve the riddle behind a mysterious substance that’s causing the sun to die out. As details of the mission unravel, he calls on his scientific training and sheer ingenuity, but he may not have to do it alone.

March 24

Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, Disney+

The special will celebrate the iconic series that defined a generation, exactly two decades after its Disney Channel debut. It will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an exclusive, in-depth interview with Miley Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper. The conversation will offer an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture’s most iconic characters and the lasting impact the show and character have had on fans around the world. With heartfelt nostalgia and fresh perspective, Cyrus will revisit the moments, music and memories that defined an era. Viewers will be treated to never-before-seen archival footage, while some of the most memorable sets from Hannah Montana are brought back to life, including the Stewart family living room and the legendary Hannah Montana closet. There will also be some familiar *notes* that find their way back into the spotlight.

Daredevil: Born Again, Disney+

In Season 2, Mayor Wilson Fisk crushes New York City underfoot as he hunts down public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil. But beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will try to fight back from the shadows to tear down the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and redeem his home. Resist. Rebel. Rebuild.

Bait, Prime Video

Bait stars Riz Ahmed as Shah Latif, a struggling actor, whose last chance to hit it big comes in the form of an audition of a lifetime. The series follows him over the course of four wild days as his life spirals out of control and his family, ex-lover and the entire world weigh in on whether he is the right man for the job.

March 26

Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, Netflix

Created by one of the greatest storytellers in crime fiction, Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole is a whodunnit serial killer mystery led by the famed anti-hero Harry Hole. Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Netflix

Starring Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title.
