Chris Pratt Demands Gender Equality

Chris Pratt is arguably our favourite person du jour. Not only is he hilarious, charming, a pleasure to behold on screen as well as endearingly in love with his wife Anna Faris, he’s also all about gender equality. The Jurassic World heartthrob reckons it’s high time we balanced the scales, and began to objectify men more.

In an enjoyable interview with Radio 4’s Front Row, Pratt says:??If we really want to advocate for equality, it’s important to even things out.?
?I think it’s appalling that for a long time only women were objectified, but I think if we really want to advocate for equality, it’s important to even things out,? said the actor who first stole this writer’s heart when he starred in Everwood, which almost nobody remembers. As for how we ‘even things out’? Well, there’s no use doing away with the objectification of women, but rather, give the men a taste of their own medicine: ?Not objectify women less, but objectify men just as often as we objectify women.?

This is a relatively new experience for Pratt, given that up until recently, he’d only appeared in a number of TV shows, in supporting roles. However, after turning heads on Parks and Recreation, and then landing roles on Zero Dark Thirty, The Five Year Engagement, Moneyball and more, he eventually worked his way into the big leagues (have you seen a movie of his and not loved it? The Lego Movie? Guardians of the Galaxy? Nope).

With that, however, comes an expectation to maintain a certain physical appearance, but he’s a-ok with that:??There are a lot of women who got careers out of [their bodies], and I’m using it to my advantage,… And at the end of the day, our bodies are objects. . .We’re just big bags of flesh and blood and meat and organs that God gives us to drive around….??It was a huge part of how my career has shifted is based on the way that I look, on the way that I’ve shaped my body to look.?

With an upcoming role opposite Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers, you can expect his star to sky-rocket way beyond the galaxy.
