London-based, Limerick-born designer Brian Woulfe is known for crafting emotionally rich spaces for clients worldwide. Here, behind the wheel of the Range Rover Sport electric hybrid, he explores the city and meets the people behind two of Dublin’s most exciting new design destinations.

“There’s an alchemy to design that I never tire of,” states Brian Woulfe. The Limerick-born, London-based interior designer is the founder and creative director of Designed by Woulfe, a design house responsible for some of the most prestigious private projects across the UK and all over the world. “I love translating someone’s story – capturing their way of living, their heritage, their aspirations – into a physical space. It’s deeply collaborative, but also incredibly personal.”

Brian’s affinity with design began as a fascination with spaces and an appreciation for how they can make you feel. “I was always fascinated by the way a well-designed environment could shape your mood, influence a conversation, or bring a family together,” Brian explains. “As a child, I was attuned to detail: light, texture, colour. I didn’t have the vocabulary for it then, but I knew I was moved by spaces that told a story.”

Although Brian works for clients all over the world, his Irish roots are hugely important to him. “I am very proud to be Irish. For me, it brings a sense of grounding. There’s an honesty, warmth and quiet confidence that comes with being Irish; and I like to think that runs through my work and the relationships I build with clients. There’s also a deep appreciation for storytelling and craft in Irish culture, which I carry with me in everything I do.”

Drawn to London for its cultural density and creative energy, what started as curiosity for Brian soon became a calling. “I immersed myself in the industry here, and eventually set up my own studio, Designed by Woulfe. London became home, but my Irish roots are ever-present in my approach.”

“Designed by Woulfe is known for creating highly personalised, deeply considered spaces that reflect our clients’ lifestyles and values,” Brian tells us. “My team and I blend intuitive design with architectural sensitivity — balancing function and beauty, often with a subtle theatricality. We’re detail-driven, but never at the expense of comfort or authenticity.”

Right now, Brian is particularly excited about the Irish design scene, which he describes as “thoughtful, sophisticated, and deeply rooted in craft”. “I have huge respect for talents such as Killian McNulty and Róisín Lafferty, both of whom are carving out new territory while staying true to their Irish identity. There’s a grounded elegance to Irish design that I think the world is beginning to appreciate more and more.”

Driving the Range Rover Sport electric hybrid around Dublin to visit Killian McNulty’s gallery on Francis Street and Róisín Lafferty’s new design atelier on Fitzwilliam Square, Brian was particularly struck by the car’s refinement.

“Everything is intentional. The silhouette is iconic, but evolved.” While inside the car, he loved the use of natural textures, the minimalism, and the sense of calm. “It’s like entering a beautifully tailored space on wheels. The panoramic roof was also a real standout for me – it completely changes the way you experience your surroundings.”

Brian admits to feeling a strong affinity with the Range Rover design sensibility. “It has this incredible ability to merge modern luxury with timeless craftsmanship. It’s quiet confidence over loud statements, which I really relate to. Both the car and our Designed By Woulfe interiors celebrate materials, detail, and thoughtful design. There’s restraint, but also richness – that’s where the magic lies. It’s exactly why I’ve been driving a Range Rover for so many years.”

Balancing function and beauty is key to Brian’s design ethos, “often with a subtle theatricality layered in”. He believes in being detail-driven, but never at the expense of comfort or authenticity. “Designed by Woulfe is all about creating highly personalised, deeply considered spaces that reflect our clients’ lifestyles and values. Design should elevate everyday life, not just visually, but emotionally.

“Live beautifully, without compromise, that’s my design mantra.” In Brian’s world, as in Range Rover’s, design isn’t just how something looks – it’s how it makes you feel.
