Dominic West set to play Prince Charles in The Crown, which makes sense

Dominic West set to play Prince Charles in The Crown, which makes sense

Following his own recent cheating scandal, it looks like Dominic West is set to step into another, playing Prince Charles in the final two seasons of The Crown

Dominic West is in the news this week, no not for being a philandering husband, but is lining up to play a philandering husband.

Oh you thought I was referring to The Affair? Nope, there isn’t going to be a reprisal of his role as, yes you guessed it, philandering husband Noah Solloway in The Affair either. This one is of much bluer blood.

West is set to star as Prince Charles in The Crown‘s final two seasons, taking it from the demise of his relationship with Diana through to the early 2000s.

Following the upcoming fourth season (due out in November) there will be another cast shakeup. Josh O’Connor’s iteration of the maybe-won’t-ever-be-king prince for this season will see him through his wedding to Princess Diana and the birth of his two sons. It will also inevitably include his years-long affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, his ex-girlfriend now-wife, which began while he was engaged to Diana.

Presumably, season five will look at the demise of their marriage and bitter divorce in 1996, with Elizabeth Debicki set to play 1990s Diana. Imelda Staunton has been tapped to play Queen Elizabeth and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.

The news of West’s role as cheating-era Charles has not yet been confirmed but it has been widely reported, coming in the same month as his very cosy frolic around Italy with co-star Lily James, before flying home in the hopes that a very awkward press conference with his wife, Catherine Fitzgerald, and a smarmy smile for the cameras will suffice in getting ahead of the scandal.

Meanwhile, Lily James (who is single) has gone into hiding, unable to promote her upcoming Netflix film Rebecca and cancelling appearances because of inevitable questions about being the “other woman”.

The irony, and the inequity, is not lost on anyone.
