Gardaí investigating potential murder in ongoing operation at Sliabh Liag sea cliffs in Donegal
Gardaí are investigating a potential murder as part of an ongoing operation at the Sliabh Liag sea cliffs in Donegal. The cliffs remain closed to the public for a third day following a missing persons search which began on Monday. The search has involved gardaí and the Irish Coast Guard’s Rescue 118 helicopter. Gardaí said in a statement this morning that investigations are ongoing.

RTÉ officials to appear before Oireachtas media committee
RTÉ representatives are due to be questioned at an Oireachtas Media Committee about the controversial payments made to presenter Ryan Tubridy. Last night, the broadcaster issued a lengthy statement that said the former director general Dee Forbes was the only member of the RTÉ Executive Board that had all the necessary information to know that Mr Tubridy’s publicly declared earnings were incorrect. Current chairperson of the RTÉ Board Siún Ní Raghallaigh and Interim Deputy Director General Adrian Lynch will attend the meeting. Ms Forbes has said she is unable to attend for medical reasons.

Rory McIlroy among board of players who will have final say on LIV golf deal, says PGA Tour
The PGA Tour has sought to assure players that they will have a say in the tour’s new partnership with the Saudi funders of LIV Golf, with its policy board issuing a statement that noted players would have to approve any final agreement between the once-rival tours. The statement was released after a meeting of the board, which includes five players: Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson. The tour’s framework agreement with the Saudis says the PGA Tour and European tour would work with their new partners to decide how defectors to LIV Golf can return and what kind of punishment they should face.

Jail sentence for former financial chief of US company founded by Kerry siblings
The former financial controller of a major New York construction company founded by Kerry siblings has been sentenced to jail for his role in a payroll scheme that defrauded unions of funds intended for the benefit of union workers. Pádraig Naughton (50), former financial chief at Navillus, founded by Ballinskelligs natives Dónal, Kevin and Leonard O’Sullivan in the 1980s, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison for each of 11 counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, embezzlement from employee benefits funds, submission of false remittance reports to union benefits funds, and conspiracy to commit those crimes – to run concurrently. He has also been sentenced to two years supervised release, with conditions, on each of the 11 counts, to run concurrently.

Kevin Spacey goes on trial in the Southwark Crown Court in London on Wednesday (28 June). The 63-year-old actor has been accused of sex offences against four men that prosecutors say occurred between 2001 and 2013. Trump sues E Jean Carroll for defamation over rape comments
Donald Trump has sued E Jean Carroll for defamation, alleging she falsely accused him of rape after a jury in a civil trial found that he sexually abused her. Trump’s counterclaim against Carroll in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday cited Carroll’s statements on CNN after the verdict, and comes after a jury’s finding in May that he sexually abused and defamed, but did not rape Carroll, a former Elle magazine advice columnist. Trump is seeking a retraction as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
