Why We Can’t Wait For Drew Barrymore’s Memoirs

Why We Can’t Wait For Drew Barrymore’s Memoirs

We’re big Drew Barrymore fans. We’ve even watched Music and Lyrics, her forgettable rom-com in which she starred opposite a grumpy Hugh Grant, twice. So, when we heard the news that Barrymore had signed a book deal to publish her memoirs we got genuinely excited.

Autobiographies of late haven’t exactly been groundbreaking. As much as we love the comedic stylings of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, their memoirs slash manuals weren’t exactly revealing. It’s been ages since a salacious celebrity memoir landed, not since Rupert Everett laid into everyone in Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins have we felt that a famous person was being their authentic self, with a heavy side dish of ?I don’t care anymore.?

Drew Barrymore may own the title of America’s Sweetheart, but the woman has lived a life. Her stint as a child actress – remember her in E.T.? – was marred by neglectful parenting and drug-taking. Her love life during her teens and twenties was constant tabloid fodder. There has been two short marriages to unsuitable men, including a welsh bartender and unfunny comedian Tom Green. She was also involved with her co-star Justin Long and The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti for five years. She’s managed a all this speculation, and has secured a place as one of Hollywood’s leading comedy actresses.

However, this book won’t be Barrymore’s first foray into publishing. Last year she published a collection of her personal photography, Find It in Everything, and in 1991 she famously wrote about her tumultuous childhood in Little Girl Lost.

People reports Barrymore as saying that her new book will expand on that part of her life, including stories about how she lived on her own at 14, ?getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying goodbye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led to the most important thing in her life, which is motherhood.? While the book will encompass the difficult parts of Barrymore’s life, don’t expect a grim read, as our imaginary best friend says,

“I love stories that are humorous, emotional and welcoming, and that is my goal in writing this book,”

In recent years, Barrymore has embraced family life, she’s even pals with that that other Hollywood mom, Jessica Alba. She has two young children with her husband Will Kopelman. Olive is 2 and a half, while baby boy Frankie is an adorable 10 months. Her Instagram will make you seriously broody.
