How To Look Polished Wearing PVC

How To Look Polished Wearing PVC

For AW16, PVC (or vinyl, patent and wet-look finishes) and velvet are the two defining textures of the season. While the latter is resonant of sumptuous gowns and luxury soft furnishings, PVC evokes’more menacing Sin City-style associations. But it’s been reimagined for the new season in sharp, sophisticated silhouettes, and paired with softer, more feminine textures, for a look that feels contemporary and covetable. Here’s some catwalk inspiration to help you look chic rather than cheap in PVC.

At Valentino high-shine was softened with pretty ballet flats and restrained shades of nude. The turtleneck also adds a demure feel to the whole look.

Kenzo chose the design of a midi-length and sweetheart neckline to balance the standout nature of this fabric. The oversized Victoriana-style blouse also?adds a touch of modesty to what can be perceived as a trashy fabric.

I love this high-shine Lanvin coat. Designed in the shape of a traditional trench coat (which has classic and conservative connotations anyway), it redefines our impression of PVC instantly. The longer length revealing a hint of ankle and the cinched-in waist are unapologetically feminine.

Isabel Marant has cleverly styled these loose-fitting, boyfriend-style pants with a grandfather cardigan and polo shirt. The look is beautifully balanced in terms of texture and fit.

The somewhat unsunny disposition of this model and the tough-looking biker boots make this outfit?appear less forgiving than it is. Imagine these trousers and this chic peplum top with a pair of velvet high heels and a big smile. How chic would that look?
