Idris Elba Makes History On The Cover Of Maxim

Is Luther still on Netflix? We don’t have the answer to that question because we can’t log in to streaming services when we’re working. (Or rather, we shouldn’t?) However, we can tell you that actor/everyone’s imaginary boyfriend Idris Elba is on the cover of Maxim’s September issue. And he is looking oh-so-good.

While Idris is making us swoon in his ?black leopard-print funnel coat?, as The Cut reports, he’s also making history with this big fashion moment. Idris is the first man to cover the iconic men’s magazine, which has relied on women cover stars in the past. Is this a victory for men’s or women’s rights? It’s a victory for everyone.

Maxim has been enjoying an editorial shake-up in recent months, with Editor-in-Chief Kate Lanphear spearheading a new Maxim since she took over a year ago. Lanphear spent time as the senior fashion editor and then style director at ELLE before moving on to style director of The New York Times? T magazine. Her move to Maxim surprised industry insiders at the time, what with the men’s magazine reputation for barely clad models lying across furniture editorials. However, her time at the helm there has led to nothing but classy and edgy praise.

Have to say, it’s pretty great to see a nontraditional female editor and black man make publishing history.
