Blue Trousers: Weird Or Wonderful?

By Marie Kelly

Blue Trousers: Weird Or Wonderful?

I’ve started fantasising about wearing blue trousers. Not navy or a deep shade of petrol blue, but proper unapologetic cobalt or?electric blue. It began with a browse on the Finery London website. I have a voucher, which I’m (too) eager to spend. The dresses are a little?busy for me, and for an occasional dress wearer, I have plenty?in my wardrobe as it is. But I will?never own?enough pairs of trousers, and I’m always looking for fresh cuts and colours to wear them in (without veering into clown-like territory).

I’m imagining bold blues mixed with rich burgundy, earthy maize and biscuity camel. It’s the perfect autumnal colour palette, which I tend to lean towards regardless of the season. Here are the items I’ve got my eye on now.

The more I look at these Finery trousers, the more I want them. The cut is so grown-up, with the high waist, pleated front panels and turn-ups. The colour is rich, and I know from other Finery pieces I’ve bought that the quality will be excellent, and so they will last. I’m dying to wear these with a pair of oxblood boots when autumn comes round.

Zara is great for adding a twist to traditional tailoring. I really like the crossover design of these pants and the metallic detailing at the front. These would look great with some of this season’s deconstructed shirting.

This stunning suede jumpsuit from online retailer Uterque is such a standout piece. This is modern cocktail wear at it best. The tactile suede means it will feel as good to wear as it looks on.

A classic shape in a contemporary colour, these Victoria, Victoria Beckham pants offer an easier way to wear bright blue?as they are minimalist in every other regard. They have no’detailing at all, just a timeless shape in a fresh shade of blue.
