An Audrey Hepburn Halloween

Halloween is tomorrow and if you haven’t got an outfit ready, and the idea of the pound shop blood is making your skin flinch – worry not! We’re here with some costume suggestions and this year we’re going as Audrey Hepburn. But not in the way you think. While we will confess to having once had a?Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster adorning the walls of our teenage bedrooms, we’ve decided that this year we are broadening our cinematic horizons. So, put that LBD and tiara away, and draw some inspiration from some of Hepburn’s other iconic, and eternally fashionable, characters.

Roman Holiday (1953)
Audrey arrived on the scene in this deeply romantic tale of a princess in disguise and hardened journalist finding each other amid a world of expectations and the ruins of Rome. Her handsome co-star Gregory Peck was insistent that the then-unknown actress be cast in the career making role.

Now, if you were tempted into a pixie cut this year, read no further. This is your look. A chic white summer shirt, heavy brows and a full skirt – bella! We love the by-now iconic Rita skirt from?Coast. Talk about twirl potential.

Funny Face (1957)
Okay, the May-December romance thing with Fred Astaire isn’t really our cup of tea but the fashion in this classic muscial is unmissable. There are so many looks to choose from in?Funny Face, but if you’re rushing to get out that door to buy prosecco and cocoon yourself at a house party, keep it simple and chic.

The easiest of the lot. Air those inky black staples, find some white socks, and then recreate the famous jazz club dance scene. Get your black flats from?River Island.

Sabrina (1954)
Another immensely charming turn from the movie icon where she played a chauffer’s daughter who attracts the two wildly differing scions of a wealthy family. It’s a Cinderella story with a Long Island twist, but before the requisite makeover Audrey rocks ingenue.

Pinafores are no longer the stuff of schoolday nightmares -?Mint Velvet in Dundrum are offering this grey number.

Charade (1963)
Which movie stars Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn involved in an international crime conspiracy as they race and flirt across the clubs of 1960s Paris? Charade! This is up there with some of the most stylish movies of the era -?The Thomas Crown Affair, Breathless, The Graduate – so it makes sense that it would be replete with images for the ideas board.

Think fit-and-flare silhouettes that flatter every shape, then give it a modern splash. We’re loving this Oscar de la Renta number,?and considering the designer and Audrey were good friends in her retirement years we can’t think of a better tribute.

Or you could go super movie geek niche.

The movie opens at a ski resort where Audrey sits clad in Valentino, of course. Pay tribute to the look with?this runway number from the same brand.

The Tribeca coat – another Coast piece – will marry all that print madness with a sixties sensibilty. Slip a classy black or white dress under this and boom.

How to Steal a Million (1966)
The wardrobe for the 1960s caper How to Steal a Million was a Givenchy dream. Peter O’Toole’s bone structure and blue eyes weren’t half bad either.
