A winter coat is probably one of the most expensive investments you'll make in your wardrobe, so best make sure you bag yourself a good one. Our first line of defence against the cold, it's one piece you'll wear with everything – from sequinned minis black slacks. Here are five trending coat styles the fashion set is loving this AW.
Quilted
Lightweight yet still super warm, quilted coats are great for layering – ideal for the eternally cold. The Frankie Shop set the standard here with their always-in-demand khaki version (sadly already sold out), but many high-street shops now stock the streetstyle favourite. For a more classic look, stick to the heritage shades – green, navy, black or beige. Otherwise, hot pink is right on trend.
Shearling
One of this season’s biggest outwear trends, shearling jackets can make even the most basic outfit look luxe. Durable and hard-wearing, they’re designed to last so while it might be a bit of an expensive splurge in the short term, it’s more than worth it in the long term. Just think of the cost per wear! #girlmath
Bombers
Bomber jackets continue their fashion supremacy into AW23 having already been spotted on the runways of both Simone Rocha and Saint Laurent. Perennially cool, you’ll find variations in just about every material from suede to leather, though wool and bouclé seem to be the most popular choices so far this year.
Leather
The backbone of any good capsule wardrobe, leather jackets can be worn year-round making them a smart investment buy. Coloured (red and brown, in particular) and distressed leather are trending at the moment but stick to black for a style you’ll reach for time and again.
Faux fur
If you want to make a statement and look uber-glam doing it, then a faux fur coat is the way to go. Admittedly not the best choice when it’s raining, they’re very old Hollywood and will keep you keep you incredibly warm as the cold, dark evenings set in. Anyone else dream of owning a Charlotte Simone coat? Maybe one day…
