Each and every year, without fail, we turn our minds to the myriad ways we ought to improve ourselves throughout the 365 days stretching out ahead of us.
Whether it’s seemingly straightforward changes like drinking more water and getting more steps in, or more daunting commitments like quitting smoking and learning a new craft, these resolutions serve as a way for us to give our lives a little appraisal and keep track of your progress as the months fly by.
From short term goals to ten-year plans, professional development, it’s only right that career-related resolutions come into the picture. With many of us still working from home or operating off a hybrid model, perhaps setting boundaries and cultivating a healthy routine is top priority.
If you want to implement some work-related resolutions for 2023, here are five top suggestions…
Buy a work journal
I realise that picking up a brand new journal-that-will-change-everything is something of a tired stereotype when it comes to the New Year, New Me mindset, but hear me out. While many of us keep track of meetings and appointments with their work diary, jotting down ideas and making notes here and there, very few of us consciously keep a work journal.
Through a dedicated career-related journal, you can become more in tune with the influence your working week has on your mood and overall well being. In addition to keeping track of day-to-day organisation, you can mull over long term goals, muse about potential next steps, and think outside the box.
There are few qualities more attractive to an employer than a person who passionately takes initiative. If you’re constantly striving to be the best possible version of yourself, the New Year is a great time to inquire internally about upskilling courses or additional certifications that would enhance your role within the company.
Alternatively, you can take on this commitment outside of office hours. If you’ve always had a passion project on the back burner, why not plant the seeds of a little side hustle this January? Whether it’s engaging your mind in some sort of craft, or taking an online course, the world is your oyster.
Perfect your WFH set-up
Who among us can say with certainty that they are proud of their work from home set-up? My current desk situation involves the absolute bare minimum, and my lower back and overall posture are paying the ultimate price. Whether it’s a laptop stand or a fold away desk, now may be the time to invest in those essentials.
