A charming period property built in the 1800s, Stonyford was remodelled in 1975, and extended in 2003.

Set in a peaceful and idyllic location in the Wicklow hills, this beautiful property – on sale through Sherry FitzGerald O’Reilly – is currently on the market for €285,000. However, the property will be up for auction on Wednesday 27th September at 3.00 p.m. in Lawlor’s Hotel, Naas, Co. Kildare.

A cut stone cottage built in the 1870s, Stonyford has been remodelled and extended over the years to create a unique property with great charm.

Sitting on approximately 5.37 hectares of land, the property is surrounded by nature on all sides – making it the perfect retreat for those in search of a quiet, country dwelling.

Inside, the cottage accommodation comprises an entrance hallway, living/dining room, sitting room, kitchen, bathroom, three bedrooms and WC.

The living/dining room is of dual aspect to front and rear with one-metre deep windows. This room has storage heating and is open to the stairs. The sitting room features an antique cast iron fireplace with a wood-burning stove, bringing warmth to the home in the colder winter months.

Tile flooring has been fitted in the kitchen which also features a mix of different cabinets for storage. Elsewhere in the cottage is the bathroom, with WC, WHB, shower, electric heater and electric towel rail.

Upstairs, the landing has a pine-panelled ceiling and a carpet floor, with a hotpress located off to one side. Three bedrooms can be found on this level – one a double room of dual aspect with a pine-panelled ceiling and floorboards, the second a double bedroom with lake views through its dormer window, and the third a room of dual aspect.

The extension includes the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and two upstairs rooms.

Externally, the house is surrounded by lush grass and ferns with many trees such as elder, hazel and sycamore. To the front, the property is bordered by a gushing stream while the gardens are filled with native trees and evergreens. To the rear, the grounds are laid out in a number of fields enclosed by stone walls.

To the immediate rear of the house, steps take you up to an elevated area with grass and a copse of silver birch trees. Behind this lie the fields, suitable for grazing.

Located off Lake Drive, the cottage is but a five-minute drive to the village of Lacken – a small lakeside village with a national school, pub, picturesque beach and local GAA club. Stonyford is also conveniently close to the town of Blessington which is just 9km away. There you’ll find various supermarkets along with an array of restaurants, bars, schools and leisure amenities such as sailing, kayaking and GAA facilities.

The N81 nearby gives easy access to the city centre, and the Luas at Citywest is only 30 minutes away.
