This quaint five-bed Victorian home is on the market for €4.9 million

A detached five-bedroom house on 0.4 acres of land, Aranmore can be found in Blackrock, Co Dublin.

Built in the 1840s, this detached Victorian property is one of four original houses on this stretch of Avoca Avenue. Widely spaced, typically with a plot width of about 30m, each of the houses stand back about 17m from the footpath with Aranmore situated on a very private 0.4 acre site behind a high rendered stone wall and hedges.

Steeped with history the house was once owned by a descendant of the Carysfort Family, one Granville Proby in the mid 20th Century. Mixing historical charm with modern convenience, the property – which has been in the possession of current owners since 2004 – underwent major refurbishment back in 2008.

A flight of granite steps guide the way up to the Victorian portico front porch where there is a hall door with large fan light. The entrance hallway features high ceilings and cornice detailing. The original reception rooms can be found either side of the hallway with original period marble fireplaces along with cornice and centre rose detail. Large sash windows allow natural light to flood the space by day.

The master bedroom and ensuite are located up a flight of stairs. Standout features include a walk-in wardrobe, high ceilings and a large sash window with beautiful garden views. There is another double bedroom facing the back garden currently being used as an office at this level. A further two double bedrooms and a large family bath at the next level complete the upstairs.

At the garden level of this double-fronted house, the front rooms are half-basement level while the rooms to the rear are the same level as the garden. There is a double bedroom and bathroom along with a more informal reception room to the front of the house.

At garden level, there is an extended family kitchen/dining room with French doors giving direct garden access. A separate, more formal dining room with original fireplace can be found off the kitchen, also with direct garden access. On the other side of the kitchen, there is an office/gym and a utility room with its own private entrance.

To the front, electric gates open onto a large gravelled driveway with off-street parking for up to six cars. To the rear, you’ll find mature gardens with laid-in lawn and a well-stocked herbaceous border surrounded by mature trees and hedges. A wonderful outdoor retreat, this area benefits from plenty of sunshine throughout the day right up until late in the evening.

Blackrock Village is only a short stroll away. There you’ll find a wealth of amenities including local shops, speciality shops, cafes and restaurants. Public transport is well catered for with Blackrock Dart Station and the Quality Bus Corridors on Rock Road and Stillorgan Road bringing you to the city centre in 20 minutes. Dublin Bay can be enjoyed via Blackrock Park with sea swimming also being available at the Blackrock seafront at Idrone Terrace. Local parks with modern children’s playgrounds are within easy reach at both Booterstown and Blackrock, with a number of schools also in the locality.

Currently on sale through INHOUS for €4,900,000, you can take a closer look inside this wonderful Victorian home in our gallery below.
