This beautiful lodge – made famous on ‘Sex Education’ – is on the market for £1.5 million

The home – made famous on the hit Netflix show Sex Education – is currently on the market for a cool £1.5 million.

As a staunch Sex Education fan, I’ll happily sing its praises until the cows come home. Charming, relatable and funny in equal measure, the Netflix series has hit a sweet spot with viewers who return season after season to catch up with their favourite characters… but why is no one talking about the real estate!? The beautiful wooden lodge Otis and his sex therapist mother, Jean, live in, has long been a favourite of mine – not least for its incredible interiors and waterside views.

Perched atop a slope overlooking the River Wye, you’ll find the idyllic wooden cabin hidden amongst the trees in Symonds Yat, Herefordshire and, it turns out, it’s actually up for sale…  shame I don’t have a spare £1.5 million pounds lying around.

Built in 1912 for use as a salmon fishing lodge, the property is of Norweigan design and boasts five bedrooms and three bathrooms set over three floors. Current owners acquired the property in 2002, when it underwent extensive renovations. The conservatory dining room was extended and most of the plumbing and wiring was replaced, as was the roof. A bespoke wood-painted kitchen was installed and the bathroom and shower rooms are contemporary in design. There are five log-burning stoves on the ground floor, floors were replaced with wood and stone floors, and pitch pine doors stripped.

Approached over a very long in-and-out drive, through woodland, the home is surrounded by nature with breathtaking vistas to the south and north from the interior, and from the strategically built decked external balcony terraces. The drive leads to a detached timber single garage and a timber open-fronted carport with adjoining log stores. Beyond that, is a parking area with ample space for multiple cars.

On the ground floor, French windows open out onto the decked balconies along with three of the four bedrooms on the first floor. The second-floor bedroom suite is most attractive with vaulted ceilings, a separate sitting area and an en-suite bathroom, both overlooking the River Wye.

A pathway with steps and a honeysuckle-covered archway lead to the front of the house. A lower decking has been fitted with a Swedish hot bath while a specially built stone pizza oven can be found just outside the conservatory dining room.

Situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Chalet is privy to stunning countryside views, peaceful walks, and of course, great fishing. According to the listing, there is pedestrian access from the grounds down to the River Wye.

A pathway with steps to the south of the Chalet leads down to a large level lawn and summer house with an old orchard located to the south of the steps. Two greenhouses and a stone and tile outbuilding are included in the sale along with a former enclosed kitchen garden with beds and pathways. There is also the opportunity for the new owners to purchase an old chapel right at the top of the drive away from the house, subject to separate negotiation. In all the property extends to 4.52 acres.

Currently on the market for £1,500,000, the property is being sold by Knight Frank in Bristol. Take a closer look inside this iconic home in our gallery below.
