Food trucks and coffee carts are having a moment – here are 16 of the best

Did someone say road trip? Better add these food trucks to your Irish bucket list.

The sun may have gone into hibernation and we’d bid adieu to summer – but that doesn’t mean the adventuring is over!

A beach day isn’t the best day but why not take a hike instead? You can dream of the lunch you’ll have earned by the end of it. Even if the heavens do open, take cover in the car and head for one of these food trucks instead. Not only will your belly be full and happy, but it will give you a reason to go explore a new part of the country too. Planning a trip around what you’re going to eat is the key to any good holiday, don’t ya know?

Mini Maegden, Bushmills, Co Antrim

Pronounced may-den, you’ll find this “feel-good food truck” pitched in a field just down the road from the Giant’s Causeway.

food trucks

Julia’s Lobster Truck, Co Clare

To be spotted at various locations across Co Clare, Julia’s Lobster Truck are masters of seafood with their fresh barbecued lobster a must when visiting.

food trucks

Craft West Cork, Rosscarbery, Co Cork

The resident food truck outside the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery, Craft West Cork serves up a Spanish-inspired menu created by chefs Alexandre Petit and Shane Deane.

food trucks

Killybegs Seafood Shack, Killybegs, Co Donegal

They may have a small menu, but it definitely packs a punch and you can’t get fresher than fish battered to order every time.

food trucks

The Hatch, Newcastle, Co Down

An award-winning street food truck in Co Down, The Hatch has been named the best in Ireland on more than one occasion. And yes, they have both meat and veggie options.

food trucks

The Salty Buoy, Co Dublin

Another seafood truck on the list, The Salty Buoy can be found at various locations across Dublin (and Wicklow) depending on the day.

food trucks

Misunderstood Heron, Leenaun, Co Galway

If it’s food with a view you’re after, Misunderstood Heron should be top of the list. Perched along the Killary Fjord in Connemara, theirs are hard-topped in fairness.

food trucks

The Hungry Donkey, Co Kerry

If they’re not at the Gap of Dunloe, you’ll find them at Ross Road in Killarney. Known to attract large queues, their food is definitely worth the wait so be patient.

food trucks

Original Food Junkie, Co Kildare

A vintage Citroen Hy1966 that houses a wood-fired pizza oven inside, the Original Food Junkie serves up authentic Neapolitan-style pizza.

food trucks

Wildwood Street Food Box, Carlingford, Co Louth

Bringing you “healthful wholefood”, Wildwood Café even caters to vegans with their summer sushi special a favourite in recent weeks.

food trucks

The Fire Slice Food Truck, Castlebar, Co Mayo

French-style street food served up from a vintage food truck in Castlebar… we may not make it to Paris this summer but our cravings will still be satisfied.

food truck

Bainne Gelato, Co Meath

If gelato made from 100% Irish milk sounds like a bit of you, then make sure that a stop-off at this food truck in Co Meath is on the itinerary.

food trucks

Koha Street Kitchen, Co Sligo

Owned by New Zealander Sascha Viertel, Koha Street Kitchen has worked up quite a reputation amongst locals, and for good reason.

food trucks

Rívesci, Co Tipperary

Food truck turned award-winning condiment makers, you might recognise the name from your weekly supermarket sweep.

food trucks

Unbeetable Food Truck, Co Waterford

Found in Tramore on the sunny southeast, Unbeetable just upgraded to a new larger unit – all the better to keep you fed and water from.

food trucks

The Saucy Cow, Bray, Co Wicklow

New to the Wicklow food scene, The Saucy Cow just opened their second location out in Bray. The absolute best vegan burgers and waffle fries you’ll ever have, trust me.
