If you're looking for an escape closer to the east coast, check out our review of Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa in County Meath.
Galway is magical and if you disagree, you simply haven't been. Here are our quick tips on making the most of a mid-week break in the city of the West?beloved by every citizen.
We opted for a double Business Class room which had a bed that was so big me and my partner could have avoided each other for 48-hours if we so wished. It was a great bed and I miss that mattress and duvet on a daily basis. Added bonus? Waking every morning to a calming view of Lough Atalia and the sublime Galway Bay. Visual mindfulness. Another plus for the?Radisson Blu is it's nearness to the train and bus stations -?a true boon for those of us who are in their mid-to-late twenties and without automobile skills. The less time spent lugging weekend bags, the better for all of western humanity.
The Spirit One Spa which is attached to the hotel is pretty much everything you and your fatigued self needs. Facials, massages, pool access, packages tailored for tired men also - make sure to check out the website for weekly deals so you can truly unwind after a day of shopping. Wine in the Atrium Bar & Lounge after wouldn't go amiss either...
Let's face it, fish tastes better near the sea. Which is why we decided on dinner at the hotel restaurant,?RAW - sushi in the sky. Located on the top floor of the hotel, the authentic Japanese menu offers so much that even picky eaters will be tempted by some of the minimalist mini bites. We opted for?Kuma's Selection Menu and there was plenty of choice. The?Unagi Rolls and?Nigiri Sushi were standouts though. Get them. Twice.
The Dough Bro's Wood Fired Pizza pop up, just off the very central Shop Street, is garnering all kinds of good talk and Hooked, where we went for a fish and chips supper, is a clarion call for those of you hungering still for ace seafood. There are platters with oysters, so get the Google maps out to navigate your way to Henry Street.
There are so many options for a quiet pint or a fun cocktail in this city. We decided to pop along to the Crane Bar, just a stone's throw from the Roisin Dubh, for some alcohol and trad. Whenever the assorted musicians took up arms, a respectful silence overcame the patrons and visitors. Perfect if you're looking for a small nook with a proper bang of The West. You could also pop out to the Christmas market on Eyre Square for some warm get-you-in-the-mood treats. Hot?whiskey as you people watch? Gimme dat.
