Is anyone else over this weather? Honestly, Christmas is the only good thing about winter — everything else pales in comparison to a good summer holiday. If you're anything like us, you're already plotting and scheming your next getaway for 2019, and daydreaming about your ideal destinations.
If you need ideas, the flight comparison site Skyscanner has just revealed their predictions for the top destinations for Irish travellers for the coming year, based on the millions of searches that go through their site every day. Having analysed data from 2016 to 2018, the site compiled a list of 19 places that look set to be very popular with Irish holiday goers this year, as well as a list of five destinations that are set to provide the best value for money for those looking for a bargain few days away.
Sun-drenched destinations are, unsurprisingly, very popular on the list but the usual haunts are swapped for those less travelled. Agadir in Morocco topped the list of trending destinations for next year as one of Morocco's best-known coastal resorts. Greece will also be popular for sun holidays next year, with Mykonos (#8), Zante (#13) and Rhodes (#15) all appearing on the list, as well as Paphos in Cyprus bagging the number two spot.
Turkish destinations are also set to be a big draw for Irish travellers in 2019, with the resort Dalaman (4th) and the city of Istanbul (6th) both featured in the top ten. Having declined slightly in popularity in the past few years, Turkey is providing very good value for money for travellers (as well as beautiful weather), so it's not surprising to see it building in popularity again.
For travellers heading to the US of A, Nashville is the top spot, with plenty to see and do for all the music fans out there. Californian paradise San Diego bags the 14th spot, and just north in Canada, Vancouver (16th) looks set to be very popular too, despite there currently being no direct flights there from Ireland.
For Irish holiday goers looking for big savings, Germany is your best bet. Stuttgart and Munich both offer great savings for travellers, with Skyscanner's data showing airfares dropping as much as 61% over the last three years.
