Wilde About the Girl

Olivia Wilde

There’s a tendency to assume that those living in Tinsel Town may be somewhat vacuous, obsessed with the idea of fame and caught up in the bubble of Hollywood. The Kardashians probably spring to mind, right? Refreshingly, however, there are those who’ve retained the ability to spot the wood from the trees, who take celebrity life with a much needed pinch of salt and have developed quite the inspiring outlook on life. Olivia Wilde is one such person, and we sort of love her, you know, because she’s got an Irish passport so that means she’s basically OURS.

As she graces the cover of Glamour‘s September issue, the soon to be Mrs Sudeikis once again took the opportunity to share her views on a number of issues with some sage words of wisdom. Here’s a few things we’re taking note of.

Olivia Wilde

1. “Cut the bull****”
Having just recently become a mother, Wilde credits the birth of her son Otis for helping her to continue to cut more and more of the bullish*t. Upon turning 30, Olivia referred to this time in her life as the ‘cut the bullshit and go be awesome’ stage. Whether famous or not, this is something that would benefit the lot of us.

2. “What starts in chaos ends in chaos”
Having gone through a marriage and divorce before she’d even reached the age of 30, Wilde refers to that stage a lot of women can reach where they feel the pressure of ‘eggs dying’, ‘getting old’ so they ‘must breed!!’, which of course she wanted to avoid. “I wanted to know myself pretty well before I started a family. I had made big life changes in my twenties, with getting divorced [from filmmaker and Italian prince Tao Ruspoli] and kind of restructuring my career, and I didn’t want to start a family in chaos. I feel anything that starts in chaos ends in chaos.”

3. Your past “had to happen the way it happened.”
‘On the subject of her break-up, Olivia adopts a rather refreshing approach by looking back on her first marriage as something that made her the person she is today.

?”[I] wouldn’t be this person without that first marriage… I really grew up with my first husband. Now I’m in a much wiser, more centered place in life.?I think if we can see people in our lives as chapters, we have a much healthier perspective about the whole thing. It’s like it?had to happen the way it happened.”
