What’s new on Netflix this weekend

What’s new on Netflix this weekend

Did you know it’s the June Bank Holiday this weekend? Because it’s not like we’ve been talking about it non-stop or anything. If you’re more of a hibernating being in the summer, there’s no shame. Sometimes a long weekend calls for a day on the couch with zero guilt when your screen asks you if you’re still watching. Yes, Netflix, yes I am. What do you expect when you’ve released such a plethora of great new shows for the start of the summer?

Documentary – Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami

Fierce. Defiant. Icon. Could you really do better than to spend your weekend watching the legendary Grace Jones take over your TV? This new documentary weaves together Jones’ public and private life, looking at everything from her extravagant performances to her experiences as a mother and grandmother.

Reality – RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGXQNWzeoVU

Every Friday sees the arrival of a new episode of this season on Netflix, and it’s exactly what everyone needs after a long week of suits and sensible shoes. The cult classic TV show is now in its tenth season and shows no sign of slowing, so it’s the perfect binge-worthy reality fix to sink into this weekend. Also, if you’ve been confused about the constant ‘Miss Vanjie’ references on social media, everything will be revealed here.

Documentary – November 13: Attack on Paris

2018 marks three years since the Paris terrorist attacks, in which 130 people died, including 89 at the Bataclan theatre. This three-part documentary interviews the people directly involved and affected by the tragedy, including the survivors, emergency service workers, the police and leaders of the French government. A harrowing watch, but an important one.

Comedy – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 4

Two words. Titus Andromedon. One of the best TV characters that Netflix has ever given us, and we have a whole season full of him to look forward to this bank holiday. In this ultimate feel-good series (written by none other than Tina Fey), the titular character Kimmy rebuilds her life in New York City, after having been held hostage in a bunker for 15 years.

Documentary – Trump: An American Dream: Season 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uejWH42hRqc

This Channel 4 documentary first aired in November last year, but if you missed it then, it’s just been added to Netflix for your viewing pleasure (or displeasure, I suppose). The series documents the idea of Donald Trump being the quintessential ‘American Dream’, and how growing up in the U.S shaped his identity, in turn, shaping theirs when they elected him as president.
