What’s on: Your guide to the best of this week’s Dublin events

What’s on: Your guide to the best of this week’s Dublin events

After the weather teasing us with the first taste of spring this week, it’s gone back to its temperamental self. With that in mind, almost all of this week’s Dublin events are in cosy indoors, so you won’t have to worry about braving the elements to have a good time. The one exception to our list is Tuesday night’s Women’s World Cup qualifier, which is well worth putting on a raincoat for. Enjoy the week, from all of us at IMAGE

Saturday: Wash away the week at the Gin Experience Dublin

Image: Gin Experience Dublin

Who doesn’t love a G&T at the end of the week? Up your gin game and have a glam night out too at the Gin Experience in the Printworks at Dublin Castle today. Different varieties of gin, the food pairings that will complement each and masterclasses with Ireland’s leading experts all feature in this two-day event, which has slots opening at 1 pm and 5:30 pm today. Plus, your tipples are all going to a good cause. €10 from each ticket goes to Debra Ireland, a charity that assists those living with EB, a rare skin condition. Sure to make the cocktails go down even smoother.

Sunday: Laugh off the Sunday blues at Crunchfest Comedy Festival

The first of two comedic events on our list this week, Crunchfest looks set to be the perfect way to round off this week. The one-day festival will take place in the Stag’s Head in Dublin with doors opening for the first show from 12pm, and going all day until their final two-hour show at 9pm.  All of the day’s shows by some of the country’s most exciting new comedians are free, so you can head to one, two or stay there all day if you fancy it. Just be there to queue up about 15 minutes before your show starts so as not to miss out.

Monday: Support Irish design at the BeorKNOTtobe Pop Up launch

Mondays (as well as any other day) were made for shopping, and supporting Irish brands and design makes the pay-off even sweeter. BeorKNOTtobe is a super cool Irish jewellery brand that specialises in weaving techniques and vibrant colours. Monday’s event is the kick-off of an exclusive pop-up shop in the always-cool Fumbally Exchange in Dublin and is offering an exclusive 10% off purchases on the night.

Tuesday: Cheer on our girls in green at the Women’s World Cup qualifier

It should be well established by now that we need to start supporting our female sports stars just as much as the men. So take this week’s Women’s World Cup Qualifiers as the perfect excuse to get started. It all kicked off in Tallaght Stadium against Slovakia last night, with a match against the Netherlands set for Tuesday. It’s sure to be an electric atmosphere and the celebrations afterwards add another reason to go to the list.

Thursday: Get some culture at the Contemporary and Modern Masters exhibition

Big fan of pop art? Banksy your idol? You need to head to Gormley’s Fine Art on Frederick’s Street on Thursday for the opening of their Contemporary and Modern Masters exhibition. The exhibition will chart over 100 years of modern art from 1900 to now, and includes pieces from Andy Warhol, Banksy, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. An absolute must-see for any art fan.

Friday: Have the lols at the Comedy Night for Repeal

Alison Spittle has been a rising force on the Irish comedy scene for the past few years. Her upcoming show in Hangar on Andrew’s Line is the perfect opportunity to see her live if you haven’t already. She’s joined by some other great new comedians, including Aoife Dooley, Conor O’Toole and Julie Jay, and all the proceeds from the night are going to Together for Yes.

Friday: Launch into the weekend at Hop House

I’m not a beer drinker, but I always cite Hophouse 13 as the perfect transition to lager for a cider-holic like myself. Now, the makers of the brew are staging some really exciting events across the city to bring together the best of Dublin. The first is in the Bernard Shaw on Friday and includes DJ sets, street food-style eats and interactive art stations. All for €12, which includes a pint and some food. Perfect Friday.
